Project Background and Building History:

University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College - Muntz Hall Renovation Includes:

The renovation will create approximately 16,000 square feet of space, including the 5,700 square feet that will be added to the front of Muntz Hall.  The project is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

  1. Atrium/Student Collaboration Space
The atrium space encloses the existing courtyard at the roof and north side under the existing bridge. The atrium enclosure creates a skylit area with a multi-purpose study, meeting and gathering space, lounge area, and private study rooms. It could also be used to host events with seating for up to 200.
  2. Advising/Enrollment Services Wing
The east wing is being fully renovated to provide new space for Academic Advising, Career Services, CAPS, and Enrollment Services. The offices will be similar to the faculty offices remodeled on the second and third floors of Muntz Hall. The renovated wing will also include shared conference rooms, a break room, food pantry, and storage.
  3. Student Life Space
The current Enrollment Services space is being modified to accommodate Student Life. The renovated space will include additional enclosed offices and new student engagement areas with new furnishings and reception spaces.

Mission of School or Site

We promote innovative scholarship and creative works, free inquiry, lifelong learning, and service beyond the classroom.

Artistic Goals of the Commissioned Piece:
The primary location for the commissioned artwork is the new exterior entrance or interior atrium walls of Muntz Hall (images above). The commissioned artwork should convey energy and excitement in a celebration of student life and services. The work should convey the mission and function of Muntz Hall which is a center of collaboration, academic advising, enrollment services, and student life space.

Practical Considerations:
Artwork considered for the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash Campus project must be durable and suitably maintenance-free. No water features should be incorporated into the work. Images of potential artwork site locations are above. Artwork could be exterior sculpture or interior artwork installed on the frieze and/or curved wall that surrounds the atrium area. Interior sculpture is not being considered.

Selection Review Process:

The Advisory Selection Committee will review submitted materials and will develop a list of semi-finalist artists that will be invited to meet with the committee for a site visit. After the site visit, the semi-finalists will create a site-specific proposal for artwork for the UC Blue Ash Muntz Hall Project.
